Canton, Michigan, offers quite an array of benefits for residents. It enjoys an ideal proximity to both Ann Arbor and Detroit, but it’s also one of the fastest growing communities in the state, with a population of over 90,000 people. Ann Arbor is only 17 miles away, and Detroit can be reached in less than 30 minutes. It’s also home to some rather notable historic areas and home selling within the city is often easier than in surrounding areas, thanks to the city’s population and ongoing growth.
The city is served by three different school districts, with the northern area lying in the Plymouth-Canon school district. The Wayne-Westland school district serves the southeastern area of town and the Van Buren school system serves the southwestern portion of the city.
New residents will find taking advantage of Canton real estate provides them with the means to be a part of this rapidly growing city. From Cherry Hill to Carriage Hills, Sheldon’s Corners to Westland, the city offers quite a few advantages.
One of the more historic areas of the city is Sheldon’s Corners, located in the southern section of Canton. It dates back the mid-1800s. Cherry Hill is another historic area, located on the western edge of Canton. Here, visitors will find Cherry Hill Village, which offers a distinct downtown flavor with lots of shopping, eateries and nightlife. The architecture here is also worth noting, as it’s based on Canton architecture from a century back. The Village Theatre is also located here.
In terms of history, Canton has pretty deep roots. It was formed in 1834, though it was originally part of Plymouth, and was named after Canton Province in China. Interestingly, Canton is not the only Michigan city to carry a Chinese name, though several have had name changes since their founding.
